MY APPROACH

Signpost with arrows showing collaboration, exploration, understanding, growth, and change.

Meaningful Change Through Understanding

I believe that meaningful change begins with understanding. When we are given the space to explore our thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships openly, we can begin to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves. Through this understanding comes insight – a greater awareness of the patterns, beliefs and experiences that shape how we relate to ourselves, others and the world around us. It is often through this process that growth and lasting change become possible.

The Therapeutic Relationship

As an Integrative-Relational Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I believe that the therapeutic relationship sits at the heart of the counselling process. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership. Rather than positioning myself as the expert on your life, I work alongside you, creating a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and accepted.

Together, we can explore how past experiences may be influencing the present, bringing greater awareness to your thoughts, feelings and ways of relating. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you in developing greater self-awareness, exploring new perspectives and finding a way forward that feels meaningful to you.

An Integrative Approach

Every person is unique, which is why I tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than following a single therapeutic model. My integrative training enables me to draw from a range of approaches, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), always using them in a way that best supports your individual needs and goals.

Rather than focusing solely on managing symptoms, I aim to understand you as a whole person, recognising the influence of your relationships, life experiences and personal strengths. My hope is that therapy becomes a space where you feel able to explore your experiences with curiosity and compassion, leading to greater insight, personal growth and meaningful change.

What to Expect

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it is natural to wonder what a session will be like. My aim is to create a calm, relaxed and welcoming space where you can talk openly about whatever feels most important to you. Sessions are not scripted or led by a fixed agenda. Instead, I encourage you to bring whatever feels most pressing, challenging or significant in that moment.

I work in a non-directive way, allowing you the space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready, and no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what you want to say.

Whether you are seeking support through a difficult period, making sense of relationships, processing emotions or simply trying to understand yourself more deeply, our sessions will be guided by what feels most helpful and relevant to you. Together, we will explore your experiences, helping you develop greater understanding and discover ways of responding that feel right for you. Where appropriate, I may also offer reflections or practical tools to support your progress.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and there is no expectation that change happens overnight. My hope is that, through feeling genuinely heard and understood, you will develop greater self-awareness, gain new perspectives, and feel better equipped to navigate life's challenges with confidence, resilience and self-compassion.
